CHILDREN'S LITURGY OF THE WORD BEGINS OCTOBER
28!

"Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them;
for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
Matthew 18: 14

Jesus tells us that we should welcome children and the
sharing of their faith. Here at Mary Queen of Heaven, we
are very excited about a new ministry of our parish: our
new Children's Liturgy of the Word program. Children's
Liturgy of the Word will take place at 10:30 Mass on Sunday
mornings, beginning on October 28. Children in
kindergarten through fifth grade will be invited to share a
parallel celebration of the Liturgy of the Word which is
designed for their age level. Shortly after the beginning
of Mass, the children will all be invited to the front of
church, where they and their leaders will receive a
blessing. Then together, they will proceed to Barrett Hall
where the leaders will help the children to reflect on the
Word of God, its meaning, and how it relates to their life.
The children will return to celebrate Eucharist with their
families.

We are very fortunate to have experienced members of our
parish who have stepped up to fill the adult facilitator
roles. Joan Giordano, the leader of this new ministry
team, has directed Children's Liturgy of the Word in the
past in another parish. Joan has been a teacher for over
twenty years. Ruth Maple has worked with the music
ministry, is involved with a Bible Study group, and is a
member of the New Wine Program. Jill McDonough has four
children and has worked with Ronald McDonald House and
Midtown Education Foundation. Brenda Scanlon has worked in
Catholic Schools in the capacity of educator and
administrator since 1956. Debbie and Mike Schwass have
taught Religious Education at Mary Queen of Heaven and were
facilitators for CHRP at their former parish. All of the
adult leaders of this ministry have or will receive
Protecting God's Children training and diocesan required
background checks. They are all are excited about this new
ministry. They are excited about bringing their talents and
gifts to the children of the parish.

The team is still in the process of planning and expanding.
We are looking for additional adults interested in being
leaders and we are also looking for 8th grade or high school
students that would like to assist the leaders. Look for
us at next week's Discovery Fair following weekend Masses.
If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, you
may email or call Joan Giordano at joannieg123@hotmail.com
834-4478 or Debbie Schwass at mschwass@aol.com 279-9836.
